Get the Scoop on Being a Kid Spy with Mac B., Kid Spy Series (Books 1-6)

Before I talk about Mac Barnett‘s time as a kid spy, I have to say that he is the funniest person on the planet, maybe even in the universe.  During the pandemic, Mac Barnett hosted the Mac Barnett Book Club Show Book Club on IGTV.  Each episode, he would read a picture book (mostly one of his many), introduce his dog Henry, discuss club business, and tell jokes and answer questions sent in by his viewing audience.  I can’t tell you how many times my husband caught me watching the show during lunch, headphones on, and laughing hysterically.  So thank you Mac Barnett.  Your show was a breath of fresh air during difficult times.

And now to the books.  Mac Barnett is an author. But before he was an author, he was a kid. And when he was a kid, he was a spy for the Queen of England.  I know, right?!  Who would have thought this award winning children’s author was once a kid spy?!  Fully (and hilariously) illustrated by Mike Lowery, the Mac B., Kid Spy series provides a firsthand account of Mac Barnett’s top secret, undercover missions for the Queen.

If you like adventure and intrigue, mixed with a little history and a lot of humor, you will love this series.  It’s a great read aloud book but also perfect for new chapter book readers on their own.  I just finished reading book six in the Mac B., Kid Spy series, Mac Saves the World, to Max and Leon.   Watch Mac Barnett and Mike Lowery talk (banter) about the latest book in the series.  If Mac Barnett and Mike Lowery don’t make you laugh out loud, there’s something seriously wrong with you!
